This week, I started work on the final instalment of the Takeo Sura Pearls series. Since the book is scheduled for publication in May 2018, I decided to brainstorm ideas for a new and second series. 

One way I brainstorm is to list current events and trends. Last week, I made such a list, and now I wish I hadn’t! Here's what I wrote.

1. Nationalism/racism
2. Fanaticism and fundamentalism
3. Increasing personal debt
4. A generation worse off than its parents
5. Information controlled by the media
6. Our personal information used to influence our behaviour (from shopping to politics)
7. Fear of jobs being taken by robots
8. The de-globalisation of economies
9. Ineffectual leadership
10. Disinterest in world events
11. Global warming
12. Short-termism
13. Digital/virtual currency
14. The mega rich (not governments) fund space exploration
15. The continuing depletion of Earth’s resources
16. 3D printing
17. Alternative energy is still an alternative
18. Overpopulation
19. Pogroms
20. Virtual warfare (i.e., drones) and cyber warfare.

That’s a lot of material for a book series and so much to be concerned about.  Do you think life is getting harder and the world more dangerous?
